City Sauna is an infamous Sheffield brothel run by mother and daughter team Kath and Jenni Clarke.

Operating under the guise of being Sheffield’s premier ‘massage parlour’, the brothel is situated in the heart of the city’s red-light district. It rose to prominence after appearing on the Channel 4 documentary ‘A Very British Brothel’ in 2015, and the ITV documentary ‘A Very Yorkshire Brothel’ in 2019. The documentaries introduced millions of viewers to a world where working girls have sex up to 15 times a day, punters rolling around in 69p tins of custard and grown men dressed in nappies for sexual thrills. The shows also revealed that some men want to indulge in food play – known as ‘sploshing’ or S&M or balloon popping. The most popular request was stated to be a ‘Nuru Massage’ – a slippery body-to-body massage using lots of lotion.

Although prostitution is legal, it is illegal to operate brothels in the UK. Although South Yorkshire Police have carried out multiple visits and inspections, no charges have ever been brought and City Sauna remains in operation. Shortly after the 2019 ITV documentary aired, City Sauna moved premesis to a new building further down the road. Their old premises, which used to be a pub called Norfolk Arms which dates back to 1830, has been empty and derelict since December 2019.
